Back on Track

The Tramway is scheduled to re-open late 2013. Welcome Aboard has already established an ambitious tram re-start programme. “It’s been a long haul but it’s so close we can almost touch it,” says Michael Esposito, Welcome Aboard’s managing director.

Of the many things to do in Christchurch, the Tram is a unique experience of history, sightseeing and supports the community. The Christchurch City Council owns the track, wires, barns, and workshops. Welcome Aboard rents them from the Council, and hires the trams themselves from the Ferrymead-based Tramways Heritage group. Our payments let the Tramway Historical Society continue to preserve the city’s assets.

The tram takes you to the appropriate stops for Punting on the Avon, the Grand Tour, and the Caterpillar Tour of the Botanic Gardens Christchurch.
