Location

Commencing at the top of New Regent Street near the junction with Armagh Street, the Tram passes through this quaint pedestrian-only arcade with its Spanish style buildings and sunny cafes, and then through Cathedral Junction which is home to several of the city's restored hotels. Turning right at Worcester Street it then heads west through Cathedral Square, across the Avon River, past the Art Gallery and into Worcester Boulevard at the end of which the Arts centre and Botanic Gardens await.

Here the Tram retraces its steps and returns along the same route to New Regent Street. There are currently 7 stops along the route.

Once stage 2 is complete in late 2014, the Tram will turn right on its return route to run along Oxford Terrace and the river bank. Heading left into Cashel Street it will travel through the Re-Start mall and will begin its return journey from the mall's eastern end at the junction with High Street. There will be an additional 3 stops along this stage with 10 stops in total.

Make the most of your day! — Consider these itineraries

Tram half day itinerary

Ting-Ting! Let the tram take you Punting on the Avon in romantic fashion, or on the Botanic Gardens Tour riding the electric Caterpillar wagon. You can choose to do both activities, or either one of them.

Dress warmly. We keep you snug with hot-water bottles on the river if necessary, and the Caterpillar has a roof, but bring a coat to go exploring just in case.

Tram full day itinerary

The full day tour includes the half-day itinerary activities– that is, taking the Tram to go Punting and then joining the Botanic Gardens Tour –  and adds in a ride on the Gondola to the summit of Mount Cavendish in the Port Hills.

The views, the Time Tunnel and the food, make for a memorable visit. See the city lights in the evening from high in the Christchurch Gondola. Magic!

Tram two day itinerary

After spending a day taking in the various sights of our beautiful city, the Thrillseekers can travel to Hanmer Springs, just a 90 minute drive by car. Hanmer offers close-up Alpine scenery,  a great golf course, and the famous hot pools. Hurtle up a river in a jet boat. Challenge a friend to paintballing. Target clay pigeons with a real shotgun. Zoom cross-country on a quad bike. Bungy off a bridge for a full adrenaline rush. Hanmer offers it all!

Remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a warm coat. Call 0800 242 663 to arrange your return transport from Christchurch.
